Injured Arsenal stars set to return against Southampton

The dust still raised by Arsenal’s loss to Manchester United at the weekend is still yet to settle but Arsenal are still top of the Premier League and that has it may, they will still remain there until next weekend at the earliest no thanks to the international break holding this weekend and part of next week.
Arsenal’s chances of staying there beyond next weekend has been further boosted with the news that key players who missed the Manchester United clash are set to return for the visit to the Emirates.
Arsenal’s influential defender Per Mertesacker missed the game at Old Trafford due to illness but is set to return to the starting XI after the international break against Southamtpon much to the delight of fans. On the other hand, another German star Lukas Podolski has been on the road to recovery.

According to reports, Podolski is set for a December return and may as well feature in the home game against Roberto Martinez’s Everton side. The return of Podolski will give Arsenal more depth in attack not just on the left wing but also in the striking department. Which means Frenchman Olivier Giroud will be allowed to take his well deserved rest.
He isn’t the only one looking set to return. The Gunners should also be set to have speedy winger Theo Walcott back in the side. The former Saints prodigy has missed over a month of action following abdominal injury and the timing of the international break would help him speed up his recovery. Arsenal have sorely missed the Englishman as his absence has robbed the Gunners of valuable width and have also stymied the speed of their counter attack. His return would be a much needed boost and should be good enough to see Arsenal over the test of high-flying Southampton next weekend.
