10 games down, eight wins, one draw and a defeat and sitting firmly on top of the Premier League table with 25 points (five clear of Chelsea and Liverpool), yet Arsenal need to sign a striker in January if they are to mount a serious title challenge this season according to former Gunner Stewart Robson.
Arsenal are currently on a nine game unbeaten run in the league since their 3-1 opening day defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates, and in-form forward Olivier Giroud combined with superb performances from Aaaron Ramsey have had a lot to do with it, with the former netting five goals so far this term and the latter finding the back of the net six times in nine Premier League starts thus far.
However, like the season where Robin van Persie bared the goal-scoring burden on his shoulders for Arsenal, Robson believes it has now been shifted to Giroud.
Arsene Wenger’s strike force has depleted over the past months withMarouane Chamakh leaving for Crystal Palace in the summer, Lukas Podolski constantly injured and Yaya Sanogo to young to handle such pressure in his first season at the club. Wenger’s situation upfront has become so bad that he has even decided to keep Nicklas Bendtner as a back-up option, a man who, since this season, hasn’t featured for the club for two years!
Over the summer, it was evidently clear that Wenger wanted to bolster his forward line with the likes of Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney supposedly on his radar. However, the Frenchman was unsuccessful with his pursuits and didn’t manage to sign a striker before the summer window shut. And ex-Arsenal midfielder Robson reckons signing another striker in January will turn the Gunners into serious title contenders:
‘I don’t think they need that many new players in January, though they probably need a second centre-forward just in case Giroud picks up an injury.‘Bendtner has not been good enough, we know that, so we probably need another main striker. We can’t get more creative midfield players, we’re inundated with them.’
Robson finished off by saying:
‘If Arsene Wenger keeps his cool and he doesn’t get riled if they lose a couple of games, I think they have every chance of staying right at the top.’

both suarez and rooney still have good chance for signing, but I prefer to sign suarez. He has good speed like what arsenal's style of playing
